I think I'll stop speculating for a bit before I spoil Hayate's funny moments
This is getting kinda gloomy and I'm sure the author doesn't want to tell the story that way. This manga is designed to reveal a bigger story but do it in a fun lighthearted way vs other way more serious mangas. Its like a complete parody of them where he wants to tell the same story but do it so you laugh along the way.
