The psuedo-meta thing happens again, and Beatrice comments on Erika. She says it is unusual for Rokkenjima to have visitors. She seems to find the idea entertaining, despite Natsuhi's concerns. Ronove suggests that she might be Bernkastel's piece, and that it would be a bad idea to underestimate her, as she is a witch even if she is playing by human rules.
Beatrice is still unconcerned, and suggests that a human cannot defeat Gaap anyways. Gaap is please, but warns Beatrice about overestimating her; a witch isn't defined simply by the ability to practice magic. Ronove says that a witch is a joker, and the center of a storm.
Beatrice has her evil-amused face, and says that on this island, there is only one witch; She, the infinite Golden Witch Beatrice. She says something hard to understand about Bernkastel's level, and Ange, and what is allowed by her.
The scene changes to dinner. There is mention of where, by rank, Erika is seated, but I can't decode wth "Best lowest seat" means. Based on what follows, I think she is sitting in Kinzo's seat since he is absent. Gohda is announcing dinner in his showy fashion, like a dinner orchestra. The food is far better than what everyone but Klauss' family eats normally.
Erika still acts completely calm and accepting of everything. She takes the superb food and eating with the family in stride. The adults comment on how accustomed to such things she acts. Hideyoshi jokes about how he still lacks table manners. Then, Erika gets suddenly spazzy and excited about chopsticks, smiling and eyes glittering, completely different from how she had acted until now. Kyrie debates that certain things should be eaten with a spoon, but Erika insists that if it is Japanese, it should definitely be chopsticks. I feel a screenshot is appropriate.
She continues, asking Gohda to therefore please bring chopsticks. Something about shame and eating Japanese, I guess eating with other utensils is just plain wrong in her mind.
She stops suddenly, and asks what the next dish is anyways.
Gohda regretfully informs her that it is soup. She winks at the family.
Someone bursts out laughing, think it was Kyrie although the translator didn't like it.
It is pointed out by the narrator that she clearly knew that soup followed hors d'oeuvres, and thus was playing a sort of joke. She was just joking and being relaxed for a little while. Kyrie isn't the only one to realize this. Eva praises her too, then suggest maybe she is a secret love child of Klauss' as a joke. Klauss goes along, saying such a daughter wouldn't be too bad. Rudolph teases, saying it's not likely, since the 'rapids Jessica came from are gone' (lol). Rosa laughs and calls him cruel.
Jessica looks bothered, and George asks her what is wrong. She is worried about being evaluated in comparison to the girl. Battler jokes about her lack of table manners, and Maria says she wants to see them. George tells her to not worry about it, and maybe try herself? She attempts to show proper manners. She manages the correct posture, but it looks strained and completely graceless. It just makes her look funny. Rudolph notices, and asks what is wrong, thinking her stomach hurts. She blushes crimson and says it's impossible for her. The cousins laugh, making her blush more and protest more. Natsuhi scolds them.
Overall, Erika has had a relaxing, heart-lightening effect on the entire table.
Dinner finishes up with cheese and coffee. The cousins will return together to the guesthouse. Normally, the dinner is awkward and followed by the adults arguing, but this time the mood is peaceful, and the adults will adjourn normally.
Gohda will escort them to the guesthouse, along with Erika. Her room is nicely done. George asks how her physical condition is, with Battler chiming in too, mentioning that he had almost forgotten already that she had arrived drowned and exhausted. He says she shouldn't push herself, and go to sleep. She agrees. Maria wants to play cards. Jessica suggests letting Erika rest, and Erika says she likes the cards and will play (later?).
Erika is standing in the lobby of the mansion. Someone asks 'Is that who you are." She turns her attention to Kumasawa and the portrait. Kuma says talks about Beatrice, the golden witch. Erika echoes the Golden Witch part. Rudolph, Hideyoshi, Rosa, Kyrie, and Eva come in, Rudolph saying something about the guesthouse. They all stop, though, looking at the portrait with Erika. The camera shows the portait, then cuts to a room I don't recognize, looks like a bar maybe? Someone is explaining the hidden gold and the inscription, which leads to it.
The gathered relatives are chatting on the first floor. The topic of discussion is the incription, because Erika is interested. She thinks it is a charming mystery, and seems delighted, saying it is arranged in a dignified place and challenges their wisdom. She loves such challenges. Battler comments on her unexpected good mood about the mystery. He asks what exactly she loves, things like demystification? She thinks it is entertaining. Then she suggests Kinzo perhaps will choose the inheritance based on the inscription. The adults all stop, and turn to Erika.
Eva asks her why she thinks so, looking uncomfortable. It is something they whisper among themselves sometimes, but they had discredited the idea. For an outsider to read it once and assert that is the case without being told....They want to know how she can assert such a thing.
She begins to explain. First, the mystery is intended for the people that live their, hence why it is posted only there. Battler agrees, no outsider could possibly solve it since they would never see it. Kinzo is challenging the residents of the mansion. She agrees. They are beginning to realize the impression that she was a silent reserved girl was a misunderstanding. She is enthusiastic at being challenged, and is now talkative.
Hideyoshi and Rosa also agree. She continues, saying she doubts the hidden treasure is some small thing. Kyrie says the value of the concealed money is 20 billion. An appropriate thing for a head of house. In other words, someone who deserved that would also deserve to be head of house.
Hearing such a thing from an outsider makes the idea, which was implausible sounding before, seem much more credible. Everyone falls silent, considering. She says such reasoning makes sense to her, and asks if they agree.
Jessica seems torn between the idea of a treasure hunt, and the possible ramifications for her father. She doesn't look happy. Erika suggests Kinzo doesn't want the inheritance to move smoothly to Krauss. Jessica gets mad. Erika continues, suggesting it would be foolish to separate the wealth and power of the family, and thus they are meant to be kept together. Eva mentions civil wars and disputes between possible legitimate heirs. Hideyoshi agrees, the successor must be someone firmly decided on beforehand.
In other words, the game will completely legitimize an heir, and any arguing against it will be impossible. Erika agrees with the theory. The only reasonable meaning of the epitaph is to undermine Klauss potential succession of the family. There is no reason to have such a dangerous thing where everyone can see it and puzzle it out, if Krauss is definitely meant to inherit. Kyrie agrees, saying it makes sense if you turn the chessboard over. Erika says some stuff that is kinda vague and hard to understand, then asks Jessica if she agrees again.
Jessica is pissed. More stuff I can't understand, about Erika's manners and reasoning and stuff, then Battler tries to calm Jessica down. Hideyoshi says it is just an idea of Erika's (I think), then moves back to the idea of the gold. He asks Maria something about using it, laughing.
Maria looks put out. Then, she says...uh, is El Dorado what is normally translated as The Golden Land? She says El Dorado is not only gold. It is a sacred place. Hideyoshi contiues to laugh and try to force the atmosphere lighter. Jessica's mood doesn't improve.
George, looking nervous, laughs, and asks if Erika wants to challenge the mystery of the inscription and become it(the head of house?). She answers yes. Her mind is already working on it. She wants to try to solve it immediately.
The mood lightens some. She looks happy and excited. Eva laughs, saying she is pleased by Erika, and thinks it is an interesting problem. Then I think she says she will try as well? Rosa seems annoyed, and asks Maria about sleeping? Oh, I think Maria wanted to drink coffee.
Battler is silent. Erika asks him if such a mystery does not excite him. She says she is in love with it. Jessica is still in a bad mood. Somethign I don't get about the atmosphere having to deteriorate conciously? Then
Meta frame appears.
