As a summary statement, sure...You'll note that Maria decided they could still come to like each other given time, but the debt was the biggest problem in her mind.

There's examples of them doing all of these things together...seriously. I do see your larger point, but it is what it is. Hayate will stop treating her like a child when she no longer is, or at least continues showing greater maturity.
