It's important to remember that Iruka is one of the most popular characters in Naruto in Japan. The only characters to ever beat him in the popularity poll were Kakashi, Sasuke, Naruto, Shikamaru, and Deidara. So the Japanese will probably like that Iruka is getting some attention. But that doesn't mean he can carry a mini-arc.
If there were more focus on the rookies, then this would have at least been entertaining. Their few moments were the highlights. I just can't bring myself to care about Iruka, but it could be okay if the rookies were mostly shown.

If this were a real class, at least 70% of the girls in his class would be rolling their eyes over how smug he acts. He is not even that attractive. But this is fantasy so I guess every girl has to love Sasuke.
