I've always felt that Bakemono's story wasn't made to last.
It was a very good story with great characters, but unlike Index you can only go so far with it. So i guess Index finally caught up.
I've only seen the first volume but yeah, the romance in SAO is " Awwwwww" worthy.
Personally, if I had to choose, I'm afraid I would pick Hitagi despite being a toaru fan  She just pushes all my buttons the right way.
But without any new story I guess that's it for her... |
... I don't really like Hitagi of the anime version... from sources that I read, it seems that Hitagi opened up to a much brighter and cheerful personality, but the anime version somehow still strikes as a deadpan snarker. And frankly, I had enough of that even before her arc in the anime ended.
