I thought the Reapers start at the Core before moving out or are they just going all out because they lost the Citadel?

Some things
i) Remember what you fought at the end of ME2?
ii) Twice has the Reapers run into a brick wall for Plans A and B and both times one species led the charge.
iii) Shepard is human, attacking his homeworld means you know WHERE he will be going, instead of having to hunt an elusive moving target
