Itachi was very naive himself in thinking filling sasuke up with rage and anger would make him become a hero of the leaf. Those emotion did make sasuke very strong, like itachi predicted, but there's no way that Sasuke was EVER going back to the leaf after leaving. I vaguely remember itachi giving naruto a gift, I'm not sure what it is, but we'll see how it relates to Sasuke's anger-future.
