Oh, and if you want to make an impact, and give a reason to have Kyuukai hate Phantom Task and actually get friendly with Irish:
Spoiler for Spoiler, or draft of one anyway: also may apply for HOTM:
Have Kyuukai go on a patrol mission and pull Irish along with him. Mission's botched, Kyuukai takes a bullet for Irish and Irish is forced to flee. Week later, Kyuukai's funeral. Around a few days after though, Kyuukai arrives on campus, alive, but not so well. He's clearly been tortured, and he's weary. Squall had taken it one step too far, however. She cut out his left eye to scan it for info. He stays to recuperate, possibly bonds with Irish. Turns out the electroshocks he took to the chest during captivity f-d over the nerves in his heart. Tabane is forced to make drastic measures and makes one decision to trust her son and his life to his last IS core project. An artificial heart. Surgury goes well, but Kyuukai has a mechanical heart and fake eye.
Leading to scene like this:
Kyuukai sighed, listening to the beat and whir of his new heart. He stares down Irish as he sat in the corner of the room across from him.
"I've got my eye on you." Irish says.
"So do I." Kyuukai pops out his mechanical eye, aiming it at Irish. He smirks as Irish flinches.
"Put that thing away, who knows where it's been?" Irish spat.
"It's been places you will never go, English." Kyuukai grinned brightly, blushing.
Irish facepalmed.

Looks' really nice
The dialog sounds like it has some ho-yay in it though
Just a question though. Why would Kyuukai take a bullet for Irish? Kyuukai has a family and a partner to go back to while Irish (thinks) he doesn't. It's more likely he'd drag Kyuukai out and distract whoever's chasing them. He'll get his ass royally kicked but considering he doesn't care about his own life that much it'd make sense.
Irish got involved in fighting ever since he was 8. Real life child soldiers who fight at that age and survive are numb to the fact that they could die. Adding that to the fact that he's partially insane and goes over the edge when he sees phantom task pilots and you'd get a 14 year old tyke bomb.
That and he's more used to torture since he never breaks due to his rationale.
