Easy, no illustration like "pure" light novel(for some people, the difference that divide between a LN and your average novel is just this) and setting is very much like your average western detective novel(the "client" come asking for help instead of the protagonist mysteriously keep stumbling upon a case, reader's avatar doing all the clue searching and idea throwing instead of the main detective).

Well yes, but to be able to put that amount of volume without letting his writing quality "significantly" degraded is something in itself. Usually author will either get a writer block if they have to keep the quality of their writing(Haruhi) or the quality of their writing will go down, sometimes from overusing the same plot advancement(most harem title, arguably Hidan no Aria).
