Had he made no expectation or claim of a challenge, I would agree with you. He clearly framed things in a manner that painted a truth as important and a desire to find that truth as good. He then changed his mind. It is not comparable to the example of an author who uses his narrative as a way of posing unanswerable questions, because we can tell as we reflect on that author's work that we weren't supposed to
look for the answer, merely
wonder about it.
It's not really that difficult to gauge an author's intention for providing or not providing concrete answers. Nobody would be expecting an answer out of Ryukishi if he hadn't put himself in the position of claiming there was one and that people can
and should find it.
