Gin's father was the previous holder of "Peerless Man of the West" title. Part of the reason Gin was trained as such, and the reason for both her relationship to Muneshige and his inheritance of the name.
(On a side note: Muneshige quite literally ran through France to get to Gin. That's pretty awesome.
