Higurashi: When They Cry is what got me into the less mainstream stuff and the first anime I watched from beginning to end. I've caught some dubbed episodes of others on Canadian TV before, but never really devoted any interest into watching all of them.
I always felt that since my first real anime was from the horror genre, it's had a large impact on myself and my tastes in entertainment.
