I believe "Hippocampus" is actually "Hippocamp" (which is still called Hippocampus, but I think the raws have Hippocamp). I don't know much, but I think the Hippocamp was Poseidon's horse (?) in Greek Mythology. I believe the seahorse has a genus name of Hippocampus because of this.

Also, the part of the limbic system in the human brain is also called the Hippocampus because it has a shape similar to a sea horse. I gave this explanation because every time I read "Hippocampus," I think of the brain.
