Uzumaki's were chosen because they live for so long and they specialise in sealing techniques. If the Sage was an Uzumaki then he should have had the trademark Uzumaki red hair and in that case his offsprings should have red hair too. Yet none of the Senju or Uchiha (his direct offsprings) have a hint of red hair.
