With coloring, instead of jumping in head deep into aiming for that water-colored/complicated, Kishida Mel/Akinashi Yuu style, try go for something much easier to figure out first. Illustrations by animators such as Atsushi Nishigori are quite good in this regard, while for me Muririn/Kobuichi's drawings for Yuzusoft really helped me with hair shading and choices in color palette.
That said, I really dislike putting all the time into drawing frilly stuff on clothes. Is this drawing for the Ane one or the one that doesn't really sound like a LN title?
