Lacks explanation on why Junko is in that much despair. And I wonder if it's copyright reasons her queen/Dio persona only came out once.
And I seriously don't want SDR2 to be animated if it's only one cour. It's impossible to squeeze it.
Three things that I think deserve some explanation.
Spoiler for Comparison to the game:
1. Ikusaba Mukuro
Ikusaba loves Junko and will do anything she asks of her in order to gain her sister's love. In the start of this game, the original plan was for Mukuro to attack Monokuma, and the punishment will be a deterrence for the students to not revoke against him. Mukuro was supposed to be captured and locked away, thereby having 2 people behind the scenes. But Junko chose to execute her at the last moment, as she felt that that way more despair can be acheived for the students, Mukuro, and herself. Besides the point that she is disappointed by Mukuro's performance
2. Enoshima Junko
Why is Enoshima Junko living in so much despair? Because she is despair itself. Like a fish is a fish, clouds are clouds, humans are humans, Enoshima Junko is an existence of despair itself and is constantly striving towards the ultimate despair for herself and everyone else.
3. Live Broadcast
The apocalypse is caused by a widespread of infectious despair. Try reading up on despairing articles of suffering, abuse, etc. Watching video clips on the ugly side of mankind and the world. Murder on the streets being so common you can watch it through the news live while eating breakfast. All medias are about despair.
The live broadcast is served as a plan to drain out the last remaining amount of hope in the world. Watching students with talents and hope killing each other, striving to live on with hope. Those who tried to save them are shot down by machine guns installed at the school gates.
This is why Monokuma does not break his own rules, as people might feel hope knowing that Despair cheated.
Edit: And I noticed they paid tribute to a certain scene they cut out
