Pretty sure the last time the gate opened was before the Empire even existed.
It may have been when humans first came to that world, and it may have been connected to our Roman Empire times.
(humans, elves, dwarves, etc are not native to that world)

Hardy's in control of that, so I'm sure if she opened world that's too dangerous she'll just go "oops. better close this."
I doubt there's that many inter-dimensional entities more powerful than Goddess of Afterlife.
She basically opens the gate once in a while to add souls to her world. The world is like a big collector's case for the god(s).
That's why that world is incredibly ripe with different humanoids and creatures.
When I meant opening holes is dangerous, I mean, mortals screwing around.
It's one thing for Gods to do it, it's another for puny mortals to do it.
