There's also the matter of treading the subject lightly for pragmatic reasons. Last time Shinichi had a nervous breakdown at the sight of his "mother", and threatened to hack his own arm off rather than let Migi try to harm her. Migi certainly is going to try to confirm that isn't a liability anymore before getting into a fight against another parasyte.
