I think that's the problem here- the pacing and/or the structure of the show. Anime can't just wait till halfway through their run time to become interesting. Something tells me this would've been better done as a movie or two, as 6 episodes in is pretty much a month and a half in real time. That is an awfully long while to keep an audience's attention span with 'messy and random' stuff.
Not that I'm going anywhere; this is my kind of fanservice, after all. But I can see other people seeing how shallow this is would be dropping the show within the first three.
