Its so rare to see that anymore ... in my high school (mid 1970s), we had a couple of girls who had hair down to their knees (one Latino girl and one asian) that were both just gorgeous. My "then-girlfriend-now-wife" wore her hair down past her waist but she drew the line there because it was always getting caught in stuff or she was just sitting on it and suddenly she couldn't lean forward
She still wears it long but only to mid back.
It only tends to work well with dark hair and thick strands. My son's girlfriend is blonde and long but it is pretty thin so she usually braids it Scandinavian style.
