Spoiler for 582:
- Kamui's rage at his father for "killing his mother" drives him to attack the man. Umibouzu tries to tell Kamui that he found a way to save her but he doesn't listen and in the process, Kamui chops off his father's arm, noting that he will become strong enough to "protect" Kouka. At that point, Umibouzu loses it and proceeds to curb stomp his own son. As we all know, Kagura stops Umibouzu from dealing the final blow but the scene then continues to show that Kouka pushes herself to go outside in an attempt to stop the fighting. It's implied that at that point, her illness finally takes its toll on her body and she dies shortly afterward. Kamui drags himself away during the distraction as both father and son look devastated over what happened to their once happy family.
- Meanwhile back in the present, whatever advantage Kagura had over Kamui is gone as Kamui proceeds to wipe the floor with Kagura and ends the battle by repeatedly slamming his fists into her body and burying her under rubble. As he does so, he gives us a sad little smile and tells Kagura to never appear before him again, as her voice, face and mannerisms remind him too much of his mom. He also notes that since his mother is gone, all he has left is "getting stronger" and "surpassing his old man".
- Abuto is witnessing the clash between Umibouzu and Utsuro and is too afraid to move, noting how he's like a frog watching a snake or in this case, watching a pair of dragons. At this point, the battle becomes one of attrition, as only one fighter will remain standing and both combatants are so powerful that there isn't any way to land a blow without taking damage themselves; Abuto compares this to eating each others "tails". But it's useless with Utsuro as he keeps healing from any damage inflicted and Umibouzu is figuratively "devouring his own tail" by keeping up this fight.
- The chapter finally ends when Umibouzu allows Utsuro to stab him in order for the crafty Yato to pierce the crow's heart and reveals that he embedded an "Altana crystal" within. These crystals were the main reasons why Umibouzu kept venturing out and leaving his family for days on end for; to prolong his wife's life until he could find a more "permanent" cure. However, since Utsuro received Altana on Earth, the Altana crystal that was meant for his wife will instead drain Utsuro of all his power and immortality, thus allowing for the possibility of his death at long last. Utsuro then collapses as blood starts to fountain from his chest...
What will happen now? Did Utsuro really die or did Umibouzu sacrifice himself for nothing? Or did Umibouzu die in order to give Gintoki and his friends a fighting chance to finally take down their old teacher for good? What about Kamui? Is Kagura out of the fight and is Gintoki going to take over to finally give Kamui (and the fans) the fight we're all waiting for? Or will Kagura will herself to continue and take down her brother's idiotic rampage for once and for all?
