The 2% GDP spending for NATO states and America's military spending are two different matters. While it may be true that the US spends too much it is also true that the NATO members depend too much on the US in certain aspects. That doesn't change that Trump's numbers are wildly inaccurate but a more balanced budget when it comes to defense does have some merit.
