I like the proper way of him getting a Code and surviving as well.
The Cart-driver is just a hype tool it doesn't show How he survived just that he did.
Though I'd prefer Lelouch having Code Geass, would be nice callback to the series Title. Would be OP AF though.
As for the possible Retcon's, It might be an unpopular one But I totally want Euphemia back in some way too, NOT and I repeat NOT AND NEVER with Suzaku. Unfortunately Shirley is dead for sure DK any way for that one.

Now that you mention "code geass" it reminded me that I made a post on a CG thread on a forum that shall not be named a few years ago. The topic was whether you believed Lelouch was alive or dead.
Spoiler for Size:

This will hold true until/if SUNRISE releases an official statement that says otherwise.
SUNRISE owns the code geass franchise, that means until SUNRISE confirms his death, there is still hope...
As for me, I'm one of those who does believe Lelouch is still alive.
The following factors/points are my reasons why I think he's still alive.
-The White house in the background (in the epilogue)
That is most likely the house Mao built in Australia, that he mentioned to C.C. (S1 ep15 Cheering Mao)
That house can work to Lelouch's advantage in that he can use it to hide.
Since he is now the enemy of the world, everyone will know his face.
Considering Mao's geass' flaw, that house is distanced from civilization, perfect for someone laying low.
-The pink origami Crane (on the haycart)
Nunally gave lelouch that crane early in season 1.
It represents her wish for a gentler world. (S1 ep3 The false classmate)
The most logical reason(s) why that crane is present are:
-Lelouch brought it along with him as a momento of his sister.
However it also has other interpretations:
-It can be symbolic to show that the wish did indeed come true.
-C.C. could've brought it with her as a possible momento.
^But these two do not support the theory that he's alive.
-C.C.'s question to Lelouch (in the epilogue)
It can be taken that he is present with her at the time. (this is also a possibility because the manner & tone C.C. used wasn't a rhetorical one, but rather she asked her question directly but not in the sense that she was talking to herself.)
However there could be another reason:
-It can indeed be a rhetorical question, as she can be reflecting on her time with him.
^But this wouldn't be in favour of him being alive.
Ok this is what we know about those who possess geass.
They lose they're geass when they obtain the code of the person who bestowed the geass upon them.
"What lies at the end of geass for it's users, is to succeed the position of the one who bestowed the power on them." Quoted by C.C. (S2 ep15 The C's World)
But what happens, if you obtain the code of another immortal?
It has been shown or implied that outsiders can have another's code as with the case of Charles attempting to take C.C. code.
There's also the possibility that Lelouch obtained Charles' immortality.
Another thing, why did Charles get affected by Lelouch's geass command, arn't immortals supposed to be immune to geass.
^This leads me to another THEORY, remember when C.C. got her code, she was wounded which meant the nun attacked her.(S2 ep15 The C's World)
Supposing when you obtain the code, it doesn't activate until you die(your first death). If this is indeed true then Charles' geass would deactivate & code would activate after Lelouch's command 'killed' him.
So if Lelouch did indeed obtain his father's code, then his geass won't deactivate until his first death.
Therefore explaining him using his geass even after Charles' death.
& at the moment Zero2 stabbed him & he died, then the code would've activated. Thus stripping him of his geass & bestowing immortality upon him.
^this is strictly theory but it is also a possibility, if you take into account details & hints from the anime.
It's sketchy at best.
OR
Even if he didn't get Charle's code, C.C. could've given him her's because at the series end, which was two months after the war.
Alot can happen in two months (eg obtaining her code), if he did get C.C.'s code then he'd have no geass anymore.
Since in the end we don't know whether he has his geass or not because he 'died' with 'normal' eyes it's impossible to tell if he's wearing his contacts or those are his real eyes.
-The series title is CODE GEASS.
The series title could be implying that he could end up having both powers.
-The usual argument is, if Lelouch obtained the code then he should've lost his geass.
^However that's why I brought up the matter of receiving an outsiders(Charles') code.
Also the R2 in season 2's name is significant because it supports my theory.
Since L is pronounced R in Japanese.
Lelouch Lamperouge = L.L. = R.R.
Another point that supports my theory is Nunally being able to see Lelouch's memories, it has been shown that only code users can use this ability.
Sure she can tell when someone is lying but I doubt she can assess that much from merely touching a hand.
One more thing, we all know how devoted C.C. is when it comes to keeping him alive, just to let him die at the end.
I find it weird, she let him go too easy.
^Of course that's just speculation on my behalf.
Lastly didn't anyone find it strange that the haycart driver(in the epilogue) didn't have a face.
I mean, come on if he was some unimportant character then just give him a random face.
This could also be some form of hint that Lelouch may have been the driver himself.
Like I said earlier, this series is OPEN ENDED so SUNRISE can decide Lelouch's fate however they please.
So it can go either way in that they decide to let him live or kill him off.
------------------------------------------------------------
I hope he's still alive since he's one of my fave anime/manga characters of all time.
ALL HAIL LELOUCH!
------------------------------------------------------------
Also there's the matter of the code geass movie that was confirmed in 2012, it's said he'll star in it.
The question is whether they'll continue from where they left off or condense the script for S1 & S2 to movie format.
Also they can come up with an original standalone script which is unrelated to the main code geass universe & timeline.
^But I don't want that, I don't want a retelling of the original series or an unrelated script.
I want progress, something like the gundam 00 movie, how it continued where the series left off.
So depending on how the movie is incarnated(eg. progress from where they left off), this can also be used to prove he is alive.
If the code geass movie is like that, then I'll jump for joy.
------------------------------------------------------------
If anyone disputes what I said, feel free to reply to this.
However try to keep your replies as friendly as possible.

Rereading it now, that post was kinda cringy.
It kinda stings as I reread it now, plus seeing how enthusiastic I was at the time of posting it makes me want to lie down and curl up... lol Well, I was about 17 then, so I'll just chalk it up to youth
. Also, thinking about it now. That CG movie I mentioned in the post is probably what the sequel was originally planned to be, instead becoming a proper sequel project rather than a one-off movie.
Lastly, like I said previously, I dislike the cart-driver theory, but I've never discarded it as a possibility. I even made sure to mention it as the very last tidbit of info in my post.

Tbh, I think Euphy and Shirley would make cameos in the sequel. As for how, they'll do so via flashbacks or by mention via conversation between characters that knew them. We could even get a cameo of them via C's world in either Lelouch's or C.C.'s memories.

Was just making sure. lol Some people actually took it seriously back in the day. So, you never really know who's joking and who's serious when discussing the cart-driver theory.

There is a chance that Lelouch wasn't aware he received the Code, I could buy that. Yes, it will suck balls that the R2 ending will be re-written in a way...but, at least if they go about it like that, Lelouch's intentions still remain the same, which doesn't "taint" his plan. (of course Lelouch being a magnificent bastard and tricking everyone is always on the table, but even for him, playing everyone with ZR is far-fetched.)
|
This is exactly it. If they don't want to taint R2's ending, then that's the only real way they can approach this imo. If they present it in any way that implies that Lelouch had either planned on surviving or that he wasn't sincere in his martyrdom, then, that'll just completely destroy the original intention and beauty of the ending.
Him not being aware of possessing the code circumvents all of these problems because even though he survived, his sincerity remains intact and the ending's meaning is retained.
