@Endarion: FMP (I also read it) ended with Sousuke and Chidori hooking up at the end. And I also hated her going to the bad guys even for a bit, but it's understandable why she did it and Sousuke did rescue her after which they hooked up and the story ended. So it's all good.
It's not something that happens in all romance genre stories, though. Magi: Labyrinth of Magic didn't do it, for example, and Trinity Seven also doesn't seem to be like that. And do you get the feeling that Rakudai will do it (because I doubt it)? DxD also won't do it.
