I'm very impressed with the raw I watched. This is really professionally-done anime and I can see that the producers are going with hard-hitting realism more like Planetes than with, ahem, Speedgrapher.
What I noticed also was the western-style animation technique. Not just the character designs (with full lips by the way), but even their movement. It was still effective.
Although the transforming mecha is borderline fantastic, they still made it very tanklike and believable as a not-to-distant-future scenario.
