It went from "That sounds like a stupid concept" or, "Is this a fanservice show like Pantsu Witches?" to "No dude, you need to see this." "Yes it has fanservice...that its the tanks, not the girls."

I still remember the creators jokingly stating that all anime is now canceled because of the popularity of the scene, lol.
