Think of it like finger-poking a balloon without it bursting, it'll reform with no hole too.
While Luffy punched Kaido you see Haki blasts around Kaido's face yet Luffy's hand is white. In the panel after the punch you see the hand covered black in Haki.
It's to show that Luffy's hand was mantled by Kaido's skin.
