These are definitely seconded. If you liked Gurren Lagann, you'll like these; the Gunbuster works have great and fitting music with colourful animation (putting aside episode 6
). With some great characters and pure "epic" stories.

I actually found Macross Zero's musical direction and composition a tad lacking along with its story aspect, though its animation was simply stellar. Macross Plus and Macross: Do You Remember Love? definitely warrant a watch, as they're both good all-around: story, animation, music, high-octane action, etc.
In my opinion, Macross Frontier is the benchmark of the Macross franchise musically, so don't expect previous series to match up to it.
