Pretty sure there was no time travel. Earth is just a backwater now, which makes sense since the Human Alliance or whatever seems to have lost track of it somewhere along the way.
I very much doubt we've seen the end of the space bugs or the Human Alliance, and I'm expecting to see inside Avalon at some point, although I'm not sure how we're going to get from here to there.
