Yeah, understandably it is condensed. Would have been nice to have a little more developed on the individual characters, but it was still good.
Spoiler:
1. I think it's part of the fate and their society thing. I think she realized they had no choice but to face each other. Also i think to avoid involving the whole village. And of course if she didn't, it would have been a pretty boring movie.
2. That one has me wondering too. I rewatched it & can't figure it out. It would make more sense that she be blind, I think it'd be almost a cop out if she healed. I think the whole point of what she did was to sacrifice a big part of herself to show that they could give up their lives as shinobi and live in peace. The way she was acting and moving it was unclear if she could see or not. It was pretty ambiguous, in some ways it seem like she is blind. She does open her eyes & they look normal, & there's the one shot of the rock across the water which makes it seem like that is what she saw. To me, she should be blind. As for the water & bird, I think it symbolizes her continuing love for Gennosuke & rememberance as it goes back to the opening scenes.
