Archaic Chinese? What?

A coworker of mine has a Chinese tapestry at home that was smuggled out to Hong Kong in the late sixties where it was bought for twenty five American dollars. Now, there is a phrase/verse/whatever on it. Since I know absolutely no chinese, I can kinda interpret some of the kanji based on what I know from Japanese, but the rest is just beyond me. So, if anyone knows that this means, a translation would be great!

Someone told me that it is archaic Chinese or something. I scan show you a picture of the warlord on it if that will help...

So why do people fight, anyway?
Perhaps the meaning of existence lies within their will to fight.
People feel a sense of accomplishment through battle.
And it’s also a fact that the ones actually fighting are never perceived as being tainted.
