When you use the same level of power that's meant to launch a powered battle suit on a smaller, lighter subflight unit:
Spoiler for Overkill:
The Type One flight unit, with the container holding the Type Two mounted on it, boots up its main thrusters while being held in place by a catapult shuttle that’s latched onto a hard-point under the Type One’s nose gear. As every access to the linear catapult deck are sealed shut, Jinrai and Gerald overlooks the launch sequence from an elevated control room.
“Catapult’s sealed off. Linear voltage at forty percent and increasing...”
Jinrai keeps an eye on the catapult’s increasing power level while slowly pushing up a lever on the console. As the power passes fifty-five percent, the catapult’s power bar indicator turns from red to orange and the numerical indicator steadily increases until it reaches seventy percent where the power bar turns green.
“Linear voltage at seventy percent, it’s good to go!”
As Jinrai maintains the linear voltage, Gerald watches the overhead view of the town of Ichihara where the rendezvous point with the Minerva is located. He eyes the screen, watching as the Minerva enters the view and approaches the point, while waiting for the opportune distance to be met before he launches the Type One. His hand rests on the console with his index finger held inches above the linear catapult’s shuttle release button.
“Three... Two... One... Launch!”
*tiit*
Twin clamps that were holding the shuttle from underneath the catapult deck snaps open, releasing the shuttle as it blitzes along the deck pulling the Type One along. The active thrusters on the flight unit add to its acceleration, causing the shuttle’s latch to prematurely purge from the Type One’s nose gear due to the flight unit slowly outrunning the shuttle itself. With no firm latch, the Type One rockets out of the catapult deck and into the sky, leaving Jinrai and Gerald jaw-dropped at its insane speed while the shuttle barely reaches the end of its track.
The two look at each other wide-eyed, stunned beyond words.
“I uhh… I guess seventy percent linear voltage is a little overkill...”
“...Y-Yeah. Get Arisawa on the line and tell him to get to the rendezvous point on the double.”
“Got it.”
