This is actually very true. Just like offense is enhanced due to bad defense, a lot of people confuse 'defensive struggles' with flat out inept offense. Not that this game was that, it was just an average game. A not overly offensive or defensive game that the Giants won by not making the self-inflicted mistakes the Pats made (Brady's safety, the unnecessary throw across the field on 2nd down that was intercepted, Welker's drop, etc.) and some lucky bounces on fumbles.
