And then when Sei is betrayed at the beginning and he escape from the palace, why doesn't the rebel kill her too? Well, it was pretty much established that Sei's mother hated him, too (and even tried to kill him, as we saw in a flashback). So I guess the brother left her alone due to this being a case of "an enemy of my enemy is my friend" or something like that. And it's not like she really did anything since she took residence in the harems, anyway (it wasn't until the recently translated chapters that she decided to make her move).
