Alaskan border? They are east germans not russians.

Their ultimate goal is to overthrow their Communist government and join East and west Germany together. Katia's father General Hurwicz was once a hero and top senior officer within the NPA but due to the stasi discovering his involvement with planing to overthrow the government he was executed but Katia was smuggled into west Germany years before his executions. But nevertheless the General had many supporters and loyal followers within the government and the army that escaped the Stasi crackdowns. Irisdina herself was one such person, at one point serving as a junior staff officer among General Hurwiz's retinue . One of Gertel's jobs is actually to watch over Irisidina to see if she would intend to continue the General's legacy. It helps that Irisdina has friends in high places that supports the coup. Beatrix suspects but lacks proof and Irisdina's own CO at the brigade level is also in on it for the Coup.
