Spoiler for Family Background:
Three millennia ago, a forgotten mage dominated and fused his body with that of an blue dragon. With that stolen power, he gained power and prestige serving as the total military commander for a king. His children inherited that power and have only known praise. However, two thousand years later, the blood has thinned. Many perished in war and more left the family line. His descendants gradually became desperate, turning to inbreeding to restore the bloodline. And so, in the world Eilotin, split into two countries, Malin and Nordoroth, Vivian’s father, Arterian Panamera wed his sister Cassandra and fathered seven children in the nation of Malin.
The firstborn Gareth, carried the hopes of his father, trained in war and received the heirloom device Aiglos. With it and his genius talents, he flew through the ranks but fell to his enemies in battle before the age of twenty.
Born one year later, Percival. He lived in the shadow of his brother Gareth. He joined the military only to quickly flee, feeling that his skills lay not in war but business. He built a moderately successful business, but by then was disowned by his father.
Born two years later, Loren. Although she spent her childhood learning the arts of war, her father arranged her marriage to a noble. She defied her father and fled to another world, finding her place in a mercenary group. Her father disowned her and placed a bounty on her head.
Born three years later, Cain suffered from genetic defects. Abandoned by his father on the streets, he died early, hungry, and cold.
Born two years later, Carados. He followed his brother Gareth’s path to war. Though he achieved much, he never received medals nor could he retrieve Aiglos. He became a victim a power struggle, defected to Nordoroth, and soon died from cardiac arrest at 22.
Born three years later, Maria. She lacked the skills of warfare and was sold early to be the wife of a wealthy man. Unlike her sister Loren, she lacked the will and judgment to defy her father.
Spoiler for Background:
Born three years after Maria was Vivian. A botched delivery left her mother barren. As with the rest of her family, she was trained to fight at an early age, but when her brother Gareth died and Percival choosing business, Arterian realized he had few children left that could place his family’s name in the annals of history and thus pushed Vivian into the military. There, they realized her talent for stealth and assassination and placed her into a group where accomplishments were never to be known. Devastated by his daughter’s assignment, driven insane seeking glory for his line, Arterian attempted to rape Vivian, at home taking a leave from work, intending to impregnate her and hope another genius child be born. However, Cassandra put herself in the way but her husband smashed open her head against a wall in desperation. Vivian, in rage, terror, and defense, committed patricide.
Afraid of what would happen if the news were spread, she falsified her parent’s death, reporting to the state that they were still alive. It helped that the community generally disliked her parents so few bothered to investigate.
Although she was now free from the pressure for glory, her family’s influence was still strong. In a mission to steal a stash of Jewel Seeds transported by the enemy, she could not resist taking them for her own. She exposed her comrade’s position and in the ensuing chaos, took the Jewel Seeds and asked for them to give her power. Rather than simply granting her power, it sent out a communications signal and called forth an ancient Phoenix. The rulers of al-Hazard had trapped it for study, but when al-Hazard had disappeared from the knowledge of man, the flaming bird remained trapped, left forgotten for many millennia. Wishing to escape and see the world, the Phoenix proposed a deal, in exchange for power, Vivian would travel to many places showing how the world had changed since al-Hazard fell. The Phoenix merged within Vivian’s Linker Core, sharing its power with her. Although it was still trapped, it could now it could see the world before it.
Following her betrayal she escaped from the battle allowing her comrades to be slaughtered as they searched for her. She stopped using her last name, wishing to forget the memories of her family, using any random name whenever it was convenient. She journeyed to regain her heirloom, as when Gareth fell Aiglos was taken and used by another. After taking it back by force, Vivian joined into the ranks of Nordoroth.
She would later fail at conquering Belka after secretly replacing the king of Nordoroth. She then hid for many years in study until she was mostly forgotten. Only then would she emerge from hiding, joining Belka’s forces and eventually becoming the Saint Kaiser’s Hidden Hand. Whereas the Right projected the Kaiser’s power outside and the Left guarded the Kaiser’s power inside, the Hidden acted to correct errors, eliminate threats, and other ways that would mar the name of the Kaiser.
However, after the Kaiser’s forces suffered a massive rout while battling against Mid-Childa, Vivian defected and the Cradle was lost. She would take up a similar role in the founding of the TSAB and the rise of the three Admirals. She currently works primarily as a researcher (which is her hobby), secondary as an instructor, and lastly as an Enforcer (she tends to kill or maim criminals instead of bringing them in).
Spoiler for Vivian in Nanoha A's:
Prior to the story, she aided Graham in formulating his plan, particularly the theoretical aspects of it, especially suggesting Durandal’s Eternal Coffin, and devising a spell to seal the Tome of the Night Sky after it had being placed in a dimensional rift so that others cannot simply go and get it. However, her true intentions were to study the Tome and eventually take its power for herself.
After she reads the Jewel Seed Incident report, she recommends that the Liese twins be ready to support the Wolkenritter, which Graham agrees to. When the Tome of the Night Sky is fully awakened, she is at Uminari City to watch the spectacle. She avoids being captured with the Liese twins but refrains from killing Chrono. When Chrono and the Leise twins travelled to Graham she chooses not to go, staying behind to watch the far more entertaining battle. When Hayate and the others manage to separate the defense program from the Tome of the Night Sky, she is surprised at their feat and decides to permanently discard her original plan and put a conclusion to the Book of Darkness cases. She appears before Hayate and the others offering to help, but in the events that follow it turns out that her help was not needed.
Spoiler for Vivian in Nanoha StrikerS:
Almost four years before the start of StrikerS, when Hayate was formulating the plans for her new unit, Vivian tried to convince Hayate to support her little pet project instead, which was to form a unit filled with the best mages and give them a broad range of powers, most importantly allowing them to be above the law. However, Hayate instantly noted obvious flaws in its feasibility and instead modified the idea to form the framework behind Riot Force 6. Vivian then set aside her ambitions and gave Hayate her support.
Meanwhile she aids in translating and interpreting Carim’s various prophecies.
After RF6 is nearing completion, Vivian abruptly transfers herself into the squad as an Instructor/Enforcer in Long Arch, feeling that the new unit would be far more exciting than her usual life. She joins with both instructor and Enforcer duties in part to avoid doing any one thing too long, as when she is tired of instructing she will be on her way to investigate, and when she is tired of investigating she will be on her way to instruct.
When Nanoha cooled Teana, Vivian was surprised, believing that what Teana did was not wrong. However, when asked if she had experienced the dangers of overwork she quietly slips away.
The battle with the gadgets and their illusions go according to plan, however when the threat against the helicopter materializes, Vivian, using the data from Long Arch to determine the location, teleports and blocks the shot from Dieci. However, she stays near the helicopter while Nanoha and others give chase.
In the days that follow, Vivian grows uneasy around Vivio. The more she stays near her, the more she feels that she has seen her before. Eventually, with the examination from the Saint Church, she concludes, that Vivio is somehow cloned from a former Saint. Because by then, Nanoha had decided to adopt Vivio, she felt her chances of a practical test of Vivio’s possible Saint Armor or sealing Vivio off in a maximum security facility was unlikely, she gave Verossa her best description of where the Cradle was located and asked him to search for it. He would later discover Jail’s base while searching through the Ground Forces files concerning that location.
But before that, Jail would make his move against the Ground Forces HQ. While at first she remained calm in the meeting room, believing that others would be able to beat back the attack, when Hayate realized RF6 headquarters had been attacked, she moved into action. But by the time she escaped the GFHQ and teleported to RF6, Voltaire was already on a rampage and there was nothing to be done. As usual, she shirked cleanup duty.
When the Cradle launched, she was with Verossa and Schach, but trades places with Fate who could be counted on to capture criminals. She joined the battle over the Cradle, but instead stopping the Cradle she chose to search for Belkan artifacts and downloaded the data stored in the Cradle’s computers, obviously believing others would be able to do their jobs.
Spoiler for Personality:
In the past she was cold, taciturn, scheming, and hungry for power. Through many failures she embarked on a journey to seek knowledge and gradually became more open towards humanity and socialization, although she never quite gave up her older traits.
At the current time, she is quite inquisitive, possessing a strong urge to know about everything, including other people's private matters. On the other hand, she dislikes revealing information about herself. She is both modest and boastful, depending on the situation. Sometimes she speaks in riddles, especially when advising others on less than important matters, as she enjoys watching how others will react. She can be quite playful at times and is not particularly incensed even if she herself is used as joke material, although she will often offer a counter. However, one must never forget her past when dealing with her. When she recognizes dangers she reverts back to her former cold, calculating, and pragmatic self.
A millennia of life has given her a somewhat cynical and sarcastic view of the world and of herself, yet she still has hope for the world. Her greatest fear is death, as she will never experience it naturally. Her greatest desire is true knowledge, which she holds to be essential for divinity.
Spoiler for Unique Skills:
Ice Conversion Affinity: Although the blood of the ice dragon has nearly disappeared, Vivian, along with most of her family still retains a natural conversion affinity to ice.
Instant Magic: Genetic changes resulted in her Linker Core being able to both output her mana instantly. With her skill in spell formation, her tendency to only use a few basic spells, along with her many years of experience, her opponents who survive often say that she can use spells instantaneously.
Phoenix: The simplest way to describe it would be a comparison to a Unison Device that cannot be removed except by death. The Phoenix gives her a second source of near infinite mana. However, Vivian cannot use that mana until it diffuses into her own Linker Core. The diffusion rate varies with how much mana is in her Linker Core; the less that is present the quicker the diffusion. The Phoenix also acts as another head, capable of noticing things that Vivian may have missed. The Phoenix’s mana is naturally of the fire element and thus changes all of her spells into fire unless Vivian purposefully reverts it to ice or others. This change in mana also affects the color of her magic circle and other spells, changing it from light blue to red.
Because Vivian’s Linker Core and the Phoenix’s are interconnected, and because the Phoenix’s mana is far more concentrated than Vivian’s, Vivian’s maximum mana capacity slowly increases. The Phoenix also slowly reverts the most of her physical body back to the time when they first merged, granting her pseudo-immortality.
Spoiler for Spells:
Throughout her journeys she has seen and learned many spells. Her ability has progressed enough for her to imitate many magic after seeing it a few times via reverse engineering; she can also invent magic spells on the spot, particularly situational ones. This list only covers the spells that she uses most or are noteworthy.
Spoiler for Spells - Offensive:
Her most used magic consists of rather bland spells, as they lack complexity and are highly effective.
Ice Shard/Fire Shard (Eisscherbe/Feuerscherbe): Fires small pieces of concentrated near physical mana at extreme velocity. It can be used rapidly, in mass, and many directions. It cannot be guided, and at long range it is inaccurate except in the rare occasions when it is used with a targeting assistant. The more mana that is used, more shards will be fired at greater velocity.
Icicle/Incendiary Spear (Eiszapfen/Aufhetzend Speer): An attack fired by stabbing, slashing, or throwing the Device at the target. Its purpose is to penetrate defenses and damage targets behind shields. When done correctly it is fairly stealthy, with little flashy lights and wasted mana. Although it can be modified to fire used at mid range, it is best used at melee range, as it rapidly deforms with distance. With more mana used, the greater the power and penetration.
Ice Beam/Incinerate: Fires a bombardment beam of ice/fire. Unlike Icicle/Flame Spear it does not deteriorate with distance. More mana gives more power, velocity, and length of bombardment.
Whiteout/Firestorm: Fires a guided magic missile that detonates at a targeted location. After the explosion, ice/fire remains in the area and disorients people in it. More mana gives it more area coverage, damage, and velocity.
Black Ice/White Flame (Glatteis/Weiße Flamme): A very long-range spell used for assassinations. It fires a shard of mana that is coated with multiple stealth barriers. Although it uses quite a bit of mana to fire, it’s not particularly powerful, but makes it up by being difficult to detect.
Shield Blast: Detonates her own shield/barrier in the direction faced. Must have a shield/barier up to use.
Spoiler for Spells - Supportive:
Warp (Verzerren): High speed pseudo-movement magic. Bends space-time to move faster without actually moving faster. When using this magic it is easy to become disoriented, unless a path has been formulated beforehand, limiting its use in combat to that of a straight line escape spell or simple boosts lasting less than a second. To move greater distances, more mana is drained.
Teleport (Teleportieren): Used when warping is too slow or cumbersome. Some sort of visual sighting is required for safety reasons, as an incomplete teleport can happen if a dense object occupies the destination, likely resulting in death. Compared to Warping, Teleporting costs far more mana for the same distance traveled, but is faster.
Frost Crystal/Flame Sphere (Frost Kristall/Flamme-Bereich): An auto guard spell that harms the enemy if they are close. Surrounds Vivian in an ice crystal that freezes most things that contact with it or a ball of fire that burns anything close. Does not necessarily have to form the complete crystal/sphere. Can also be used manually. More mana increases barrier strength.
Return: An inherent skill of Aiglos, it teleports Aiglos back to Vivian.
Shadow Cloak (Schattenumhang): A general-purpose spell used for stealth. It bends a wide range of the electromagnetic spectrum, including visible light, around Vivian and seals her heat inside her device. It also actively limits the amount of mana available for detection spells to detect. Vivian cannot move faster than a slow walk when either two effects are working at high levels. While not in combat, she almost always has some limits to the amount of mana available for detection.
Surveillance Tower: An extremely powerful spell for detection. Vivian raises her Device and blasts out mana in all directions. Analyzing the feedback provides a wealth of information, including mages, war machines, and even small useless things can be detected and found. However, this will alert anyone who can detect magic in the area, and using this spell over a wide area drains a sizable chunk of mana. It is technically a wide area spatial attack, although its damage is so little that it can only dispel illusions.
Spoiler for Spells - Ceremonial:
Ceremonial spells are quite special for Vivian. Although she will admit that they don’t suit her style, she views them more as an art than other types of spells, partially because in the past she simply lacked the mana to properly cast them. Ceremonial spells are the only spells that she will gladly share with others, if only to see them used, as she believes they are more beautiful than any other magic.
Hail of Spears: A spell commissioned by a general to destroy armies. A magic circle is formed in the sky that rapidly expands. When it has reached a desired size, it stops expanding and quickly fades. Afterwards, the area underneath the circle is saturated with thousands of magical spears. Each spear doesn’t have much power—in fact it can take multiple hits to kill a civilian. However they do have a tendency to rip through armor.
“Ciunas Malygos, Veifaras Serinol
Draw upon the sky a sigil blending with clouds.
May the command of heaven be gifted to mortals.
Blot the sun with gray, the bane of dark weather it is.
Bring forth spears and imbue them with storm.
Let the Hail of Spears fall.”
Fimbulvetr: A spell that can attack through dimensions. Drastically lowers temperatures at a target area and encases it with snow and ice. The mana drain is so high that Vivian can only target a small area.
“Ciunas Malygos, Veifaras Serinol
All color in the sky shall fade to white.
That which fills space will not flow.
Snow will come from all directions knowing not of obstruction.
Zealous warriors will become sluggish and fall to sleep.
Ciunas Malygos, Veifaran Serinol
For all things that exist this knowledge has not been lost:
once the never ending winter commences,
none can escape the frost.
The great winter—Fimbulvetr”
Spoiler for Combat Overview:
Vivian can be described as a burst attacker, preferring to end the fight within seconds. She rapidly closes the distance via movement spells, and then strikes with a single spell hoping to end the engagement. When a single attack does not result in a kill, she switches to a more traditional style, using skill, knowledge, and unpredictability to defeat the opponent, or simply disengages and flees.
At range, she is disadvantaged due to the fact that she holds no advantage unless she can close the distance. At melee range, she is a monster, able to dish out powerful blows backed by centuries of experience and skill at incredible speed. However, while her reaction speed is extraordinary, her actual speed is not, unless boosted by magic.
Her tactical mind was always above average, but after centuries of war she has become a genius. There are few techniques and strategies she has not seen, and of those that she has not seen, she can quickly devise a method of countering it. She knows a vast amount of spells from many magic styles, although due to the sheer volume of spells as well as a severe lack of practice she is hardly proficient with many of them.
With the Phoenix granting her quick mana regeneration, longer fights and aerial movement became possible. She also carries an ordinary pistol as extreme backup.
Comments and criticism welcome I guess. Probably needs a canon and German check but ah well.

Hence why i said If. It was more an exercise of "how many ways can I pull The Matrix on my readers."
Approached on a serious note, it's a Lost Logia's fault. Consuming an entire world of its accumulated mana in it's denizens, reset it to an earlier, lower state, and letting the planet grow anew. At the end of the cycle, consume all and reform again. All the excess mana created in each cycle is then stored and used for whatever purpose the LL is intended for.
Such a method is brutal and creates a lot of mana. I've been toying with the idea, though I've no idea what to use it for. It sure makes one hell of a Holy Grail.
