Heck even Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), which is considered to be the biggest disaster of a game in the series' lifetime, actually has an incredible and epic soundtrack.
What's also nice is the diversity. There's rock, rap, electronica, jazz and even classical implemented in the series' BGM. The variety of vocal themes is also good for those who don't like listening to just instruments all the time too.

IMO Sonic hasn't had good music since the Genesis era. It's depressing as hell how far the franchise has fallen even in that category. As hilarious as Crush 40 is it's still a far cry from the likes of what Dreams Come True came up with for the original game and ditto for the Michael Jackson ripoff soundtrack that was Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Here's an example of what it used to sound like when I was growing up:
Chiptunes forever baby!
