It plays similar to EX 3D on a 2D plane. Though the engine is different form EX. EX's game engine has the similar Alpha engine custom combo and there slow unblockable attacks MP+MK. Also EX copies SFII/Alpha style movements, while in SFIV you have more fluidity in movements, also Ryu and Ken's stance are now different.

In SFIV the Focus Attack is considered as a parry and an attack at the same time MP+MK. They somewhat of hybird the engine of SFIII and SFII. One hit you will not take damage, but if you are hit twice during a focus attack you'll be hit by the 2nd attack, it only blocks 1 attack with no damage and will proceed to do the focus attack, good for close range or a counter hit for one hit attacks. The more you charge MP+MK the stronger the focus attack will be, it drains one or 1/3 of a Super Bar Block. The other meter is called the Revenge Meter where you can do a special "ULTRA COMBO" which is a EXTREMELY damaging attack, you can use it when the REVENGE gauge is filled, can only be used once per round though. Super bars have 4 blocks level4 block you can do a standard super which is damaging, but not as strong as the ULTRA.

Definitely different engine with EX and gameplay. The only similarities they have is the 2D plane environment with 3D characters.

akuma rocks
Dude Akuma is a hidden Boss along with his brother Gouken the legendary Master fo Ryu and Ken who seems to be still alive in this series, who is much STRONGER than Akuma gameplaywise.

Since to balance Akuma's gameplay he has the weakest Stamina, but the most damaging moveset as for Gouken has the same damage as Akuma, but has better Stamina, but some of his attacks leave him open.

SETH the new boss is CHEAP!!!
