Just as a note, you won't have to worry about the complexities in the game itself. When you go to start the game, just like with Umineko and Higurashi, there's a Season select. However, the Seasons correspond to the game releases.

So if you choose Season 1, you'll play the initial release from August (Chapters 1-5) and if you choose Season 2, you'll play the latest release (Chapters 6-7 for S1 and Chapters 1-3 for S2). For story and gameplay reasons, I like the way RGD is structured and I think it'll be easier to adapt to/understand by the time Season 3, 4, etc. are released.
