I still find the standard anime trope of guys desperately trying
not to see anything really annoying. If they were calmer about it, it would be gentlemanly, but this is always just weak.

As for the old guys, I thought they were pretty close to real life. People can get really, really stupid when they are ignorant and desperate. In any case, they were played somewhat symbolically, which justified the over-the-top acting, for me. I think that some of them still had family surviving: they themselves were alive, after all.
