I think we can say serfs are not exactly slaves And servants are not the same thing as serfs.
The two girls became the servants of the Demon Queen. They are working and for that they are giving a place to stay, clothes, and food (and also in this case education). They are also not being turned in.
As serfs they would be forced to work on their lords land for the rest of their life. In this situation they are given
freedom of their future.
Anyways there are different types of serfs and I expect the girls were basically the lowest level of serfs and almost like slaves.
