There's excitement for this week's episode. Action is delivered by courtesy of
WMasane, who BTW kicks a**.
The first four minutes display how she enjoys turning those horny droids to shreds, and the pleasure she earns from the mayhem ensued. Plus one more minute of her dispatching another of the freaks by near the end of the episode.
We get to listen to the full music of the WitchBlade theme (not the OP); the psycho-esque song.
Synopsis.
Spoiler:
Reiji and his assistant carry out the test to measure the WitchBlade powers. WMasane just plays around with her toy and earns insurmountable amounts of bliss from the mayhem she gets by ripping it to shreds.
Masane wakes up in an intensive care room. On a display monitor Reiji's image appears to request Masane if she has made her decision. Masane berates Takeyama for locking her up, as she desperately wants to find her daughter. Takeyama offers a deal to Masane, if they provide help to find her daughter, then she will lend them her power in return. Masane is not able to comply, until Reiji guarantees both her daughter's safety and answering all her questions related to the WitchBlade to which Takeyama concedes.
On another part of town, Mariko (the landlady of the "Mary's Gallery” pub) scolds nonstop Yuusuke (the freelance photojournalist who Riko crossed path with in the first episode) for being careless about Riko and lectures him how he should be taking responsibility for the lost, little girl. To much his chagrin and annoyance Yuusuke gives in and goes to town to search for Riko’s whereabouts.
Meanwhile, Rihoko (Masane's child) is making her way to Tokyo Tower, the rendezvous point her mother and she promised to meet whenever both get lost. Her purse disappeared and cannot afford a boat ride, but when the situation seemed hopeless here arrives the sailor man with the big dog from the first episode and kindly offers to take Riko to the Tower, after she explained him her dilemma.
Turns out that her purse was stolen by a not-so-kind, youngster woman, who earlier deceived her with a friendly demeanor. The lady is pissed off and complains about the scarce quantity of money kids these days carry around, since there were only 300 yen in Riko’s purse.
Unfortunately for her, she was caught up at the wrong time by another of those mechanical droids, which traps her with a grappling claw and drags the girl into its range.
The scenario changes location to Doji Heavy Industries HQ lead by the old man from episode two (and the possible counterpart to Kenneth Irons for the anime). His blond assistant, Shiori Tsuzuki, reports in that is only matter of time to secure the identity of the owner to the WitchBlade.
The old man cannot pull out from his mind thoughts about who might be the fortunate chosen that the WitchBlade has picked up to be its wielder.
Returning to Tokyo city, the police has secured the area of another murder scene. That unfortunate bitch was fried crisp like roast chicken.
And trouble just keeps knocking on Mariko’s front door, because the social worker from NSWF (the hag that took Riko away from Masane) goes hysterical on her, learning about Riko’s disappearance. Of course, Mariko just plays cool and lazily complies that there was nothing she could do. However, the old hag puts on more pressure to which Mariko has had enough and pushes that NSWF bitch out from her bar; she does not want that crazy grandma to scare her clientele.
Cut to Riko who safely arrived to Tokyo Tower, thanking the sailor man for the boat ride.
At NSWF testing facilities, Reiji discloses to Masane about NSWF intending to create superior humans by gene manipulation. However, some of the test subjects went wrong and are set loose out there in the city. Conventional weaponry is rendered ineffective against them, so that’s where WitchBlade enters.
Takeyama requests for Masane to become an eraser for NSWF in order to track and destroy those creatures. He further briefs Masane about their intentions to research the WitchBlade capabilities and what good could hold for mankind’s benefit. He also comments to Masane that they can provide a possible surgical method to remove the WitchBlade from her, as well as any needed means to find and secure her daughter.
A climatic scene follows afterwards at a helipad where Reiji prepares to board on a helicopter and promptly asks Masane for one last time if she’s in or out of the game.
Night falls and the vicinity of Tokyo feels with an uneasy calm. A fat, chunky hobo has lost his mind or maybe he has abused smoking pot. He keeps on being delirious about feeling and smelling upon something. When his eyes lock on a woman it serves as catalyst for chubby morphing into a sentient, tank droid with three light bulbs mounted on its back.
It lets out killing pleasure, as it is making way slowly toward the victim but halts on its tracks the moment its vision descries WMasane’s silhouette standing atop of a skyscraper with the moon imposed behind her.
Impossible to get hold of that primal sensation, Chubby wastes no time to wrap WMasane with its extended, grappling claw. Of course, WMasane just chuckles and grins finding the droids’ futile attempts funny.
Chubby latches on its chord and shoots itself straight for WMasane, which swallows her upper half and proceeds to electrocute her from within chanting “Die” over and over.
WMasane remains dead serious and gloomy, unaffected by the electrical surge she’s experimenting and obviously both undisturbed and oblivious to Chubby’s racket. Suddenly, her golden eyes flash of bloodlust and with one swing of her retractable blade, Chubby gets sliced in chop suey whose remains plummet in thunderous rage.
After the storm cleared away, Masane is riding the helicopter along with Takeyama’s assistant who informs his boss that the operation was an utter success. Unfortunately for Masane, they have not been able to locate Riko, and just as she was letting off her hopes her eyes casually turn to Tokyo Tower.
At Tokyo Tower, Riko is feeling both depressed and anxious that her mother has not arrived to the meeting place, until Masane calls her out from the helicopter and literally lands at her daughter’ side. Both mother and daughter hug and laugh in the most overreacting manner possible.
Cut to Takeyama’s office. He’s conversing on the phone with Rena Soho, who by the way wears a similar wristband like Masane’s except that the gem mounted is a purple one.
However, all does not ends well since Chubby managed to survive miraculously and reverted to its human form ready for another night out in town.
I'm surprised to the attention paid to the details on all of WMasane's facial gestures when deep breathing, experiencing extasis, the small chuckles she pulls out, everytime she grins when a blow is dealt on her but ends up undamaged, etc.
I must apologize for my first impressions on her with all the moaning and the presumed sexual mood that I perceived from WMasane in the first episodes.
We get lots of details and scrutiny about her in episode three to analyze, and I came to the conclusion that WMasane is most behaving as a wild predator. Her deep breathing and instinctive reactions point that she's driven by bloodlust for at least mayhem.
She just wants to have fun and is in for the hunt. I could tell that she's like a rabid wolf driven insane by the slightest scent of blood. This is further evidenced at a certain scene of the episode when WMasane frantically dashes toward the tank droid, as she sticks out her tongue and her eyes flashing bloodlust.
Similar to a rabid beast pouncing on its prey.
And I just love it and find creepy cool a particular manner of WMasane sticking out her tongue and licking all over her lips. A sign that she's savoring the hunt and the rewards she reaps from slicing her victims (the droids).
Nonetheless, one of her highlights were her monologues which thanks to fansubs I was able to understand, since I'm listening to the anime in raw Japanese.
My comprehension skills are very restricted, but this was what I could roughly translate from what I understood.

I do not understand at all.

OK. Making Masane aside, simply put episode three owns. There is lot going with Reiji explaining what's the deal about NSWF and where those droids come from, however, I obviously realize that he's keeping the entire truth from Masane. There's more to the droids, and Takeyama has his own agenda for the WitchBlade.
But for now, he's acting fair to Masane not reveal his true colors and even recruiting her to his side by providing means to find Riko, though I get the hunch that Masane conceded unwillingly and would sooner figure a way out of NSWF for both Riko's safety and hers.
The only negative stuff I'm criticizing this episode for are, first, the droids continue to be the same, lame design. C'mon, GONZO!
You can do better than that. Some fu**ing, mind blowing creatures. Second, I particularly disliked those long, frame shots of WMasane when playing with the tank droid at the facility.
Some frames looked like they were recycled and made WMasane's movements as if she was jogging.
God, give me a break!
Also, what's with that red orb thing on WMasane's tongue?
If Masane ever has recollection of being WitchBlade?
And what's with that gray goo stuff coming out from the droids?
(Somebody please tell me that's just the droid's blood and nothing else)
