He died because Ddraig and Albion, both of whom are stronger than him, were fighting in the middle of the UnderWorld. They caused so much destruction that the entire world (all mythologies were involved in that war) was on the brink of destruction. It's implied sealing the Tenryutei cost him his life.
edit: Before you ask, Ddraig and Albion were 2 and 3 on the list before they got sealed. And Juggernaut Drive is described as the power "to surpass Maou and God".
