It's not that dreadful. But the problems it has are quite obvious and... not the most pleasant. As expected of a novel written in 17 days.
The anime will definitely show it, since they went all the way to giving super air Himegami and that other guy appearances in the OP. Even though the manga went all the way to skip this entire volume and characters.

Spoiler for some stuff that made vol.2... unfortunate:

-Contradiction of stuff said in vol.1
-Events being so "huge", one's believability could be tested. Really gives you the feeling that the author is writing with the thought "ANYTHING is possible"
Kind of the Code Geass R2 feel...
-The characters that appear in this volume become completely air after this volume (heck, the "heroine" of this vol. turns into air IN THIS volume), and in addition, few of the old characters that appear in vol.1 appear in this volume.
-Touma, uzeeeeeeeeee (annoying)
-A problem that will probably be solved by the anime, but the amount of explanation text is considerably annoying, and boring. Even more than vol.1 (this episode's)
-There are times where the thought patterns didn't feel written well enough to understand the characters' actions...
-The theme of the volume wasn't something one could really invest emotionally on, I feel
