Its generic to begin wtih and it has everything that most of us hate about generic harems even with the monster girls you really dont have much to work with so it can only end badly IMO.

I can agree with your first 2 points but the third is just a simple assumption, Monster Musume had a really nice storyline even in a harem manga like this, you can really see how the relationships evolve little by little and how the series keeps you interested.
"so it can only end badly IMO", this made me laugh really hard. Crab is one of those authors who always maintains contact with the fans and improve his own work in a really good way, it is not for nothing that this manga is the #1 on sells in NA and stay in the top 5 on Japan.
