There are 16 volumes of the novel out:
There is also one volume out for the manga Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (とある科学の超電磁砲/A Certain Scientific Railgun):
From Neosam's post:
The manga that's serialized in Shounen GanGan is titled
To Aru Majutsu no Index (とある魔術の禁書目録), and there's currently 1 volume released of it: (second volume will be released on June 10th, 2008)
Also, a guide(?) to the novel:
Author: Kamachi Kazuma
Illustrator: Haimura Kiyotaka
Translated from JP Wiki:
Quote:
In a world where science clarifies supernatural powers.
In a huge college that has power development in its curriculum.
To a resident high school student, Kamijou Touma, a pure white sister appears.
She calls herself "Index" and says that sorcerers are chasing her.
Thus, Kamijou Touma enters the world of the occult.

The story is set in a world where science=supernatural powers and religion=magic. This is a work that mixes reality and the occult, which seems to be incompatible at first glance. Adopting all type of SF, Academy City is full of over-technological machines, represented as supernatural powers, and the world of religion, full of sorcery like the Bible and alchemy. <--yet another quote from JP wikipedia

Never knew this series until now, but I have seen the railgun manga on Amazon before.
The religion part of synopsis is a turn-off, but everything else has potential to be interesting, so this goes on my to-watch list for now. Just hope the religion part isn't stressed... Aah, I hope...
Not going to buy the novels though... 16 is waay too much to buy...
Haha, Neosam posted in the New Animes thread just before I finished making this thread. Nice timing!
