Well, flamethrowers wouldn't be a good long-range weapon against fast Knightmares so it's better at close or medium range.
I assumed that since Knightmares are metallic, overheating one to a certain degree would perhaps melt internal circuitry and shut down electricity flow from the Yggdrasil Drive. Surely, Knightmares have be generating heat when in action and would have some sort of temperature limit in regards to overheating issues.
