And, according to Asuka April (and it confirms a hunch of mine concerning Lelouch's very few opportunities to spot, approach and snatch it), the Gawain will indeed be brought to Kaminejima by Schneizel for the ruins' exploration - and Zero will steal it right then. In other words, it's only two (or so) episodes away.

I guess one of the future eps' highlights might be Lloyd's tear-streaked face as he sees another mech of his (presumably) getting zipped away by Zero.
