Assuming you use it right, both are quite awesome if impractical
But Ichika is not using it right, he
can't, he is not godamned Chifuyu. Chifuyu dictated the equipment and forced Ichika to follow her path.

I myself think the beam saber idea being void by default is absurd
ST version has 4 modes for that
> Solid
> Solid + Barrier Void
> Beam
> Beam + Barrier Void
The most used? Beam saber, without barrier void. It's not as energy intensive, but still effective for the most part.
And for safety reason, Ichika mostly use Solid blade when he activate barrier void. Barrier void will phase through, but solid blade won't pierce Absolute defense.
Beam + Barrier void is when he need overkill, such as Golem in chapter 7.
