if you want to get socket am2, just know that the performance increase of the cpu's from socket 949 is about 1%. the only real difference between 949 and am2 is that it supports ddr2 (finally). however amd is holding off their newer generation cpu's untill the end of the year/next year. so this might be a good reason to buy am2 just to be ready for the newer cpu's.
however if you the best right now then i suggest you wait untill the end of july when intel releases their core duo 2. it will without a doubt outperform everything amd currently has to offer and even beyond. the prices are also going to be really affordable.
